i wrote about 30 demos in september 2020, and i spent several months after that editing, mixing & mastering, remixing and combining elements from multiple tracks into new songs, sort of like making mashups.

(unlike my other work, i wrote these, there were no neural networks or midi generators involved.)

that FKA twigs quote from the new york times profile had an outsized influence on the editing process of this album ("you know, that sound is going to be amazing... when it's muted!" she's right.)

also, a suzanne ciani remark from a documentary ("double-gated") had an outsized influence on the writing process. (i think it was for composer magazine, but i can't find the exact quote now.)

i suppose i would say it's a project about negative space.
